Kyocera Display (former Optrex) has introduced an ultra-compact monochrome transmissive STN LCD that displays white characters or graphics on a blue background with an industry standard outline. The F-51405 Series 5.2-inch diagonal module offers high brightness and features economical chip-on-glass (COG) construction with ease of integration. It is ideal for POS terminals, price checkers, musical instruments, audio equipment, and a wide range of industrial applications including process instrumentation, medical equipment, diagnostic devices and factory automation equipment.

The F-51405GNB-LW-AJ (F-51405GNB-LW-ANN RoHS version) module has a luminance of 120 nits (cd/m2) minimum over the surface of the panel, and is backlit by eight high-bright white LEDs (four on each side). It has a resolution of 240x64 dot pixels and can display text or graphics or both in a wide range of configurations.

Operating temperature range is 0 to 50°C. This lightweight (95 g) module measures a compact 149.5 mm W x 51.7 mm H x 9.8 mm D, with a viewing area of 130.2 mm W x 36.7 mm H, yet still matches the industry standard for 240x64 LCD panels. It has an 8-bit parallel data transfer interface, with a 5:1 contrast ratio and a total power consumption of 615 mW (including LCD and backlight).

The module's high level of component integration saves engineers valuable design, sourcing, debug and set-up time. It incorporates a backlight as well as mounting features, and an LCD controller driver with built-in RAM.


Available with white LED backlights, the HR series is ideal for applications where the LCD may be used in high ambient lighting conditions, including direct sunlight (reflective mode), or without a backlight (transmissive mode). This highly reflective background reflects a much higher percentage of ambient light back to the viewer. HR series LCDs provide exceptional clarity, sharpness and readability in all types of ambient lighting conditions while giving designers an attractive display in an industry standard configuration that enhances the functionality and appearance of their end product. Operating temperature for all HR graphic and character modules is -20° to +70º C.


Applications for Kyocera Display's (former Optrex) HR Series include handheld industrial instruments, MP3 players, appliances, industrial panel meters, medical diagnostic instruments, gas pumps, vending machines and automotive fleet information systems.
